ACTIVISM

Activism

I enjoy getting involved in causes and the political sphere. However, I know to be objective in my journalism—Therefore, I don’t often write about the issues I am most connected to for publication unless there’s an op-ed slant. I merely added this page to my portfolio to reflect these positions as part of my general work/volunteer experience.

Joanna Rees for Mayor

Canvass Team Member
San Francisco, CA
May 2011 to November 2011

As part of Joanna Rees’ canvass team, I reached out to registered San Francisco voters in assigned precincts to engage them in a dialogue about the 2011 city election, the issues that were affecting them most, and Ms. Rees’ candidacy for the mayoral post. I distributed literature to homes and the general public and promoted neighborhood talks and various events in my door-to-door outreach and through social media. Additional duties included phone banking, being part of the campaign presence at debates and events, and gathering voter data for the field team.

Newsom for California

Volunteer
San Francisco, CA
September 2009 to October 2009

I made weekly phone calls from Gavin Newsom’s gubernatorial campaign headquarters to reach out to California voters about Mr. Newsom’s candidacy and to invite them to local events. I also assisted the campaign staff and fellow volunteers with the set-up and break-down of his town hall in San Rafael.
